We Made It. Barely.
I can't begin to recount all the stuff that went wrong during our move, but suffice it to say it was the most difficult move we've ever made and it sucked more than we could have ever imagined. Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. My husband almost killed himself getting our things into the UHaul and down to MD. He is my hero and I don't think I'll ever be able to thank him enough for all the back-breaking work he did, although he's dropped hints as to how exactly that could be done. ;)
But it's all over now and we are finally, safely in CA. San Francisco to be exact. This is the view out my window. Obviously, the house isn't so close to the Bridge, but it is the view I see when looking up from our computer. (Which, by the way is a new MacBook, a gift to T from our church, for him to use in his studies next year. It came just in the nick of time, as the keyboard to his old computer was literally lifting off of itself.) I'm missing NY, but SF is breathtakingly beautiful. The weather changes here by the moment, and I find that it speaks right to that part of me that needs to be calmed at the moment.
Anyhow, next week looks to be a million times better than the last. I think I'll forget all that, if you don't mind. I'll be able to enjoy my vacation better if I don't think about the load of crap that is piled high in mushy-from-the-humidity boxes somewhere in Maryland. I don't think T is joking when he says that he'd like to toss a lighted match into the middle of it all and walk away. He'd be sure to grab my wedding pictures first though!
Oh! I've forgotten to tell you that we forgot my suitcase in NY. Isn't that just the cherry on top of my "week from hell" sundae? I thought T had it, he thought I had it and when we got to the airport we realized that our friend's house still had it. Yay. It's noones fault really -- can you blame a guy who drove to and from Maryland from New York on 2 hours of sleep? Not really. So if you see me, you'll know why I'm wearing the same clothes, don't have any make up on and have really bad hair. Hopefully I'll have my bathing suit by the time we get to Calistoga at the end of the week.
We're going over to St. Helena today and will spend the next few days with T's parents before our annual trip to Calistoga with my family begins on Friday. I've talked about these trips here (scroll down a bit to the "Calistoga" entry). This time with my family is easily the highlight of the year for me, besides Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I'm thankful, relieved and excited that it's coming up again in just a few days. I NEED this vacation this year!
Alright, I'll say adios for now. I hope all of you are enjoying your summer so far, staying cool and not going too crazy being with your kids all.day.long. (And I thought my Mom ran her summer day camp to make money. Yeah right. It was so we had something to do all summer!) Feel free to share some bad moving stories if you like -- I know I'm not the only one who's gone through something like this!
Mwah!
Moving is so not fun, even when everything goes smoothly. Happy to hear you're in SF and I hope you get to relax for a while. Enjoy the lovely weather and proximity to family!

I am so sorry for the crappy move. I'll share mine -- the worst was the move into the rental last year. The day we moved Doug got called over to Saudi Arabia. So he left a few hours after the movers left. I woke up in teh morning with an active crawler and a busy boy and I had food poisoning. I couldn't move without vomiting. Nothing was unpacked, not a toy, not the TV -- nothing. It was pouring outside and I couldn't leave the bathroom. Then a couple of days later I am out getting the screen repaired that Tess went through before I had baby proofed and I fell and broke my leg. So it wasn't the move itself -- it was the events around it. It sucked! Luckily this move went very well, I hope your next one goes as well.
